MSRP: Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price
Nīlapadma | नीलपद्म
Nīla (नील) — blue / the deep blue of night | Padma (पद्म) — lotus / the sacred bloom | Pronounced: NEE-la PUD-ma
A handcrafted brass-alloy demi-fine adjustable cocktail ring set with a large lapis lazuli oval cabochon carrying a deeply carved floral lotus relief worked directly into the stone face, held in a plain flat gold bezel on an open-back adjustable band with engraved rope-twist texture — in 22k Gold Plated.
The Design
Nīlapadma — meaning “the blue lotus” — is a ring built on the meeting of two of the most resonant elements in Indian ornamental tradition: lapis lazuli and the lotus. The stone is a large oval cabochon of deep royal blue lapis lazuli — opaque, dense, the colour of the night sky before full dark — its surface carved directly with a full floral relief: eight elongated petals radiating outward from a raised central point, each petal precisely defined, the carving deep enough to catch shadow in its recesses and create a three-dimensional sculptural quality on the face of the stone. The carving is worked entirely into the lapis itself, making each stone a unique hand-carved object rather than a standard cabochon.
The stone sits in a plain flat gold bezel — low profile, clean-edged, with no prongs or additional ornament — so that the entire visible surface above the finger is occupied by the carved lapis face. The band is adjustable with an open back, its full shank surface engraved in a rope-twist / diamond-cut hatching pattern that provides a rich textural contrast to the smooth gold bezel above and the carved stone surface beyond. On the hand, the deep royal blue of the carved lapis reads with immediate authority — it is a stone colour with millennia of luxury material history, and the carved lotus face gives it a specificity of craft provenance that elevates it well beyond a standard stone ring.
Craft & Material
Handcrafted entirely in India by highly skilled karigars, Nīlapadma is made in high-quality brass alloy — anti-allergic and skin-friendly — and finished in your choice of 22k Gold Plated, 925 Silver Plated, Rose Gold Plated, or Black Rhodium Plated. Each plated finish is sealed with a protective e-coating for tarnish and wear resistance. The lapis lazuli is a natural oval cabochon, hand-carved with a floral lotus relief — its colour depth, pyrite inclusion pattern, and carving relief depth vary naturally between stones. No two pieces are mechanically identical — natural minor variations in lapis tone, matrix, and carving character are inherent to handmade production and are not defects.
Why It Sells
Lapis lazuli is one of the oldest and most commercially authoritative gemstones in the world — its deep royal blue has been associated with royalty, divinity, and luxury across Egyptian, Persian, Indian, and European traditions for over five thousand years, and its name recognition with buyers globally is matched by very few stones. Carved cabochon lapis carries a significant perceived value premium over plain lapis — the hand-carving signals artisan provenance, Mughal-era craft heritage, and collector-quality material at a demi-fine price point. The lotus carving motif is the single most universally recognised decorative element in Indian jewellery — it travels equally well across South Asian diaspora markets, wellness and spirituality markets, and luxury fashion markets globally. The adjustable open-back band eliminates sizing concerns for wholesale buyers and reduces return rates for online retail. The engraved rope-twist shank provides a fine-jewellery material detail at the band that reads as craftsmanship rather than ornamentation. Four finish options allow a single design to serve multiple consumer segments and price points. The 22k Gold Plated finish delivers the visual register of fine gold jewellery at a competitive wholesale price.
