The Design

Sparshamaṇī — meaning “the jewel of touch” — is an earring that foregrounds the raw stone surface as its primary design statement. Both stones are entirely uncut and unpolished: the rose quartz top piece is a large rough slab — its form broadly square but with naturally organic, uneven edges, its surface translucent pale blush pink, the light passing through it in the way that only raw, unprocessed quartz allows. Below it, connected by a small gold link, hangs a peridot chunk — smaller, its form an irregular organic mass, its colour a bright grass green with the characteristic warm yellow undertone that distinguishes natural peridot from other green stones. Both stones are held in electroformed bezels — gold metal deposited directly against the raw stone surface, following every contour and irregularity of the edge exactly, so that the gold border is a perfect negative of the stone’s natural form.
