The Design

Citrāpuṣpa — meaning “Carved Flower” — is built around a single act of craft: the carving of a lemon quartz. The stone is a large thick oval, translucent and warm yellow-green — the precise colour of new lemon rind held against light — and its entire upper face has been worked by hand into an intaglio composition: a five-petal flower at the centre, its petals broad and slightly cupped, rising to a domed pistil bud; flanking the flower on either side, large carved leaves with defined midribs; and around the perimeter, a continuous scrolling vine border that follows the oval edge of the stone from top to bottom. Every element of the carving is cut into the stone rather than applied to it — the design lives inside the quartz, revealed only by the play of light across its carved planes.

The stone sits in a four-prong gallery setting — four small claw prongs at the cardinal points of the oval holding the stone proud of its gold base — and the gallery walls are plain and clean, keeping all visual attention on the carved face above. The band is rope-twisted — a fine torsade of gold wire that adds texture to the shank without competing with the stone. On the hand, as shown in the editorial photograph, the ring spans from knuckle to knuckle: a piece that commands the full width of the finger and earns every millimetre of that presence.
