The Design

Kasmīravallī — meaning “the Kashmiri vine” — takes its name and its form from the paisley, the boteh motif whose origins lie in the woven shawls of Kashmir and whose curved teardrop silhouette has been one of the most widely travelling decorative forms in the history of global ornament. The bracelet is built from five large cast gold paisley links, each fully three-dimensional and domed — their surface carrying a deeply embossed relief of feather veins and a small scrolling curl at the pointed tip, the relief work standing proud of the domed surface in a continuous raised pattern that catches directional light across every curve. Each paisley is edged with a fine beaded milgrain rope border running the full perimeter of the form, adding a further register of gold texture at the boundary between each link and the open negative space between them.
