The Design

Suryamukhi — meaning “the sun-faced” — is a three-part drop earring built around one of the most enduring motifs in Indian jewellery: the sun face. The stud top is a large cast gold sun face in high relief — rays extending outward in a full corona, the face detailed with brow, eyes, nose, and a smiling expression, bordered with a fine rope-twist edge that frames the face like a sun disk. The stud post sits behind, making the entire sun face the visible element against the ear — bold, mythological, immediately recognisable.

From the base of the sun face, a small carved carnelian rosette bead hangs as a connector — its warm orange-red surface carved into a flower form, the natural colour of carnelian adding a warm solar tone that bridges the gold sun above and the green below. Below the carnelian, a large gold filigree teardrop frame in intricate jali scrollwork holds a green onyx teardrop cabochon set in a plain inner bezel — the deep forest green of the onyx reading as a deliberate colour counterpoint to the warm orange-red of the carnelian, the two stones anchoring opposite ends of the warm-cool spectrum within a single earring. The filigree frame adds extraordinary visual richness and traditional Indian craft depth to the lower drop.
