Vyāghramālā | व्याघ्रमाला

Vyāghra (व्याघ्र) — tiger / the sovereign beast | Mālā (माला) — garland / strand / necklace | Pronounced: vyaa-GRA MAA-laa

A handcrafted demi-fine necklace on a brass-alloy 22k Gold Plated chain, with a full-spectrum multi-tourmaline faceted rondelle strand, eight evenly spaced cast gold spiral coin disc spacers, and a central sculptural gold bar pendant carrying a standing cast gold tiger above five mixed drops: rough multi-tourmaline, cast gold palm leaf, pink tourmaline, smoky quartz teardrop, and raw tourmaline chip.

The Design

Vyāghramālā — meaning “the tiger’s garland” — is a necklace of exceptional material and compositional complexity. The strand is a continuous run of multi-tourmaline faceted rondelle beads — tiny, precisely cut, uniformly sized — their colour shifting across the full tourmaline spectrum from pale mint and aqua through forest green, teal, deep pink, warm rose, grey, and near-black as the eye travels around the strand. No two sections of the strand read the same colour; the whole necklace is a moving, chromatic study in the natural spectrum of a single mineral family. Eight cast gold circular disc spacers are positioned evenly along the strand — each disc flat, its face worked in a concentric spiral / coin texture that catches light in a tight radiating pattern, the warm gold of each disc a deliberate counterpoint to the cool, multichromatic tourmaline surrounding it.

At the centre of the strand, the pendant: a flat elongated gold bar in a tapered leaf or boat form, its upper surface carrying a fully sculpted cast gold tiger in full stride — four legs, raised tail, head forward — a miniature figurative sculpture of complete clarity and considerable craft ambition. From five attachment points along the base of the bar, five drops hang in a fanned arrangement: a rough raw multi-tourmaline crystal in dark greenish-black with natural irregular form; a cast gold palm fan leaf charm with ribbed surface; a small deep pink-red tourmaline round faceted drop; a large smoky quartz teardrop in dark translucent brown-grey; and a small raw tourmaline chip. The five drops are not uniform — they vary in material, form, scale, and colour, creating a pendant that rewards close inspection and reads differently at every viewing distance.

Craft & Material

Handcrafted entirely in India by highly skilled karigars, Vyāghramālā uses natural multi-tourmaline faceted rondelle beads, natural rough multi-tourmaline, natural pink tourmaline, and a natural smoky quartz teardrop, all set against a brass-alloy pendant, disc spacers, and findings in 22k Gold Platedanti-allergic and skin-friendly — sealed with a protective e-coating for tarnish and wear resistance. The multi-tourmaline strand varies naturally in colour distribution between pieces — the spectrum, graduation, and individual bead tone are inherent to the natural stone and not controllable. No two pieces are mechanically identical — natural minor variations in stone colour, rough crystal form, and smoky quartz tone are inherent to natural material production and are not defects.

Why It Sells

Multi-tourmaline in faceted rondelle format is one of the most visually arresting strand materials in the demi-fine market — its full-spectrum colour range is immediately compelling in photography and on the body, it reads simultaneously as casual and luxury, and its name recognition has grown substantially in the global gemstone jewellery market over the past five years. The standing tiger figurine on the pendant is a singular design element with cross-cultural commercial strength: it carries simultaneous resonance in the Indian wildlife and heritage luxury market, the global maximalist jewellery market, and the collector-object jewellery category that drives high engagement and strong conversion in editorial and social commerce contexts. Rough raw stones as pendant drops are a strong current market signal — they communicate natural material authenticity and artisan provenance at a glance. Smoky quartz in teardrop form is a reliable bestseller — its dark translucent brown-grey is deeply photogenic and broadly flattering. The gold coin disc spacers elevate the strand from a simple bead necklace into a composed, designed object with clear craft intention.
